When I was a little girl my mother shared one of her favorite movies with me: Serendipity. I was taken away into the story; living in the moment as Sara and Jonathan took their single glove and tempted fate. I loved the movie, and loved the name all the more so. There was something about the way it just rolled off the tongue that struck me. Serendipity is the phenomenon of finding something valuable without looking for it and that's exactly what this Coffeeshop was. As I was driving down the road of Walsenburg with my family the large coffee sign pulled my attention away from the tattered buildings. We were passing by when the name painted in elegant white letters across the window struck me and we immediately pulled over. Without a second breath, I was out the car and running through the antique door that blocked me from the wonders inside. A small little shop circled the coffee bar in the middle of the room with a variety of specialty jewelry, bags and mugs. The counter had a small mirror with the words "This Person Needs Coffee" painted onto it and I grinned in agreement.

I talked to the woman who I assumed was the owner and she happily set off to get me a cup of her coffee. Perhaps because of my enthusiasm about her shop or out of custom, she checked in with me about the quality of my beverage as I browsed through the gorgeous mugs lining the shelves. She had nothing to worry about though, as the coffee cup clasped between my hands was going nowhere. Their house blend had a non-distinguished initial taste as it floated smoothly across my tongue. Unlike most coffees I've had that had an milder initial taste, this one wouldn't let you forget it was there by coming back with a strong well rounded aftertaste that then settled down with an Ethiopian like berry quality. Serendipity took it's pull at fate that day and sent me back out its doors with something valuable indeed. In the wise words of the movie that filled my childhood: "life is not merely a series of meaningless accidents and coincidences. Uh-uh. But rather, it's a tapestry of events that culminate in an exquisite sublime, plan."
